Year pillar

Saju means “four pillars.” It's a Korean tradition that reads the moment you were born — the year, month, day, and hour — as four pillars of energy. Together they describe your natural temperament: how you think, connect, work, and recharge. If you do not know your birth hour, the first three still build a chart; everything in this app comes from those pillars either way.
Each pillar is calculated from your birth moment. The more precise your birth time, the more precise the read.
Roots
Your background and early environment — family, ancestry, and the wider world you were born into.
Season
The season of your birth. It carries a lot of weight — shaping growth, drive, and the environment you came up in.
You
The day stem is your “day element” — the anchor that represents you. The day branch speaks to close relationships.
Inner world
Your private life and later years — home, what you build quietly, and the parts others rarely see.
Every pillar carries elements. The balance between them — which speak loudly, which stay quiet — is the core of your personality pattern. Elements also follow a generating cycle (each feeds the next) and a checking cycle (each can pressure another).
Growth
Vision, planning, and reaching outward — the energy of starting and expanding.
Expression
Warmth, visibility, and animation — energy that wants to be seen and shared.
Stability
Trust, care, and grounding — holding people and projects together.
Clarity
Structure, principle, and refinement — cutting noise down to what matters.
Depth
Wisdom, adaptability, and reflection — sensing flow before acting.
Arrows show direction. Solid lines: one element feeds the next around the pentagon. Dashed lines: one element checks another across the center.
Saju looks at how well-supported your day element (you) is by the rest of the chart. A more supported chart tends to thrive by asserting and initiating; a more stretched chart tends to thrive by drawing on support and timing. Neither is better — they just describe different ways your energy works best.
From this we find your useful elements (what helps you flow) and your cautionelements (what tends to add friction). That's what lets Daily luck tell you when a given day's energy is likely to feel supportive or harder — measured against your chart, not a generic horoscope.
Once we know your four pillars and element balance, we map your chart to one of 450 personality glyphs. Each glyph combines four axes — element, strength, drive, and rhythm — so the same birth chart always yields the same type.
3 strength × 5 elements × 10 drives × 3 rhythms = 450 unique glyphs. Browse them in the InnateGlyph index or read how your glyph is built on the personality glyph guide.
Strength measures how supported your day element is inside your full chart — not willpower or success, but whether it tends to assert on its own or grow with allies and timing.
Your day element is well supported in the chart — energy tends to show clearly and assert on its own.
Support and demand are mixed — you can both initiate and draw on timing or allies.
Your day element grows with support — you often thrive by reading the season and leaning on allies.
Your primary drive comes from classical ten-god emphasis — which motivational roles (peer, output, wealth, authority, support) repeat most across your stems and branches. We name them in plain English on your glyph.
Connection and peer loyalty — builds trust through equality.
Independence and competition — protects freedom and acts boldly.
Natural expression — turns feeling and talent into something enjoyable.
Honest expression — breaks stale patterns and says what others avoid.
Movement and opportunity — spots openings and moves with range.
Care and responsibility — turns effort into practical value.
Courage under pressure — acts decisively when stakes are high.
Structure and order — creates reliability and earned respect.
Intuition — reads subtle patterns and learns from quiet signals.
Support and preparation — grows through steady mentorship and study.
Rhythm is the yin–yang balance of your chart — how energy tends to show outwardly (active), inwardly (quiet), or in between (balanced).
Outward rhythm — energy tends to move, act, and be seen.
Mixed rhythm — action and reflection trade places naturally.
Inward rhythm — energy tends to reflect, sense, and restore privately.
Your birth chart is fixed, but calendar time keeps moving. Classical saju tracks that movement with luck pillars built from the same stem–branch alphabet as your birth pillars.
There are 10 heavenly stems (element tones with yin or yang) and 12 earthly branches (animal signs). Paired together they form 60 unique pillar combinations — the sexagenary cycle. Years, months, days, and decade chapters each advance through this 60-step loop.
Folk overlays such as the three-year cycle (Samjae), movement & travel (Yeokma), and visibility & attraction (Dohwa) sit on top of these moving pillars — separate labels, not replacements for theme scoring.
Leanings, not orders
We describe tendencies and timing — energy that may lean one way. We never tell you what to do.
Yours, not generic
Unlike a sun-sign horoscope, saju reads your whole birth moment, not just the month. Give us the hour and you get four pillars; leave it out and the chart is built from three, which still reads.
A starting pattern, not fate
Your glyph is where you begin. Your choices, context, and growth are yours to write.
