How the calculator works
Enter two birthdays. The calculator finds each person’s Chinese zodiac animal, the animal of the year they were born, and names the traditional relation between the two: a harmony, a clash, or one of the lesser pairs. Then it compares the two whole birth charts the way saju, the Korean Four Pillars, reads a match, and scores them out of 100.
The animals are where most zodiac compatibility charts stop. They speak for one pillar of each chart, the year, which saju reads as background and family. Two people whose animals clash can still have charts that fit well, and a perfect pair of animals can still rub. That is why the calculator shows both.
The traditional relations between the animals
- Six harmonies (yukhap), the closest bond: Rat and Ox, Tiger and Pig, Rabbit and Dog, Dragon and Rooster, Snake and Monkey, Horse and Goat.
- Six clashes (chung), the animals facing each other across the ring: Rat and Horse, Ox and Goat, Tiger and Monkey, Rabbit and Rooster, Dragon and Dog, Snake and Pig.
- Trines (samhap), three animals four years apart: Monkey, Rat and Dragon; Tiger, Horse and Dog; Snake, Rooster and Ox; Pig, Rabbit and Goat.
- Resentment pairs (wonjin), a staple of Korean matchmaking: Rat and Goat, Ox and Horse, Tiger and Rooster, Rabbit and Monkey, Dragon and Pig, Snake and Dog.
- Harms (hae), breaks (pa) and punishments (hyeong), the lesser frictions the tradition also names.
One convention to know. Many zodiac charts call any two animals of a trine a best match. Saju counts a pair as half of a trine only when it holds the trine’s middle animal: the Rat, the Horse, the Rooster or the Rabbit. So this calculator finds no relation between the Monkey and the Dragon, where some charts call them a best match.
The animal is the one for your birth year as saju counts it, from the start of spring near 4 February. Born in January or early February, you may belong to the year before; the Chinese zodiac calculator shows both counts of the year.
What the score reads
The score compares all of both charts: how your two day elements meet, the animals pillar by pillar, which elements each chart leans on, and each person’s drive and rhythm. “Top 1%” means about one pair in a hundred scores as high. The four views weigh the same findings for love, friendship, work and family.
It describes how two sets of energies tend to meet. It does not say whether two people belong together, and it is no reason to start or end anything. The Library explains how the score is built, piece by piece.
Questions
Which zodiac animals are most compatible?
By the animals alone, the six harmonies, then two animals of the same trine. By saju, it depends on the whole charts, which is what the score is for.
Can I use it for marriage compatibility?
It reads how two charts tend to meet in love, friendship, work and family. Take it as a reflection on a pair, not advice about marriage or anyone’s choices.
Do we need our birth times?
No. Dates are enough for the animals and for three pillars each. Both birth times add the hour pillars to the score.
Is Korean zodiac compatibility the same?
Yes. Korea reads the same twelve animals and the same relations, and the score here is saju’s, the Korean reading of the chart.
Are the birthdays saved?
No. Both are sent once to compare the charts, and neither is stored, here or in an account.
